RECEPTION DETAILS |

Located in Boston’s southend neighborhood, MakeShift Boston is an artist space dedicated to community and social justice issues. In accordance with The Spectacular! theme of this year’s conference, we have organized a small, curated show around the work of two photographic artists | Bryan MacCormack and Megan McCormick.

The reception will take place Friday, March 28th from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, and will include light refreshments and drinks. MakeShift Boston is located at 549 Columbus Ave, Boston, MA 02118, a four -minute walk from the Mass Ave MBTA stop off of the Orange Line.

MORE ON THE ARTISTS |
Bryan MacCormack’s work addresses Palestinian and Israeli relations specifically, capturing both the violence of war, of cultural displacement, and economic disempowerment alongside the sociocultural practices of activism and performance in response to the conditions of political and economic abuses.
Megan McCormick’s photo-series on “The American Woman,” “Performance,” and “Streets,” moves from the pop-spectacle of gendered bodies and the performance of sexuality to a treatment of the spectacularness of the ordinary and the everyday.
Though MacCormack’s and McCormick’s photographic images confront the spectacular in seemingly different ways, their work engages the spectacle/the spectacular through a similar combination of both aesthetic and political interrogations of the formation of politico-public imaginaries, (re)articulated through the kinds of spectacle, spectating, and spectacular modes our conference panelists are exploring as well.
